WE ARE LOOKING TO RECRUIT PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS/ STUDENTS STUDYING TOWARDS AN UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE OR HONORS DEGREE – JOIN OUR STAR ACADEMY TEAM!

Work with children with autism, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD or remedial challenges. Each child receives an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) that you will be part of executing. The number of children you work with will depend on your time available.  We work with children in block sessions of 2.5 hours at a time. Location of where the program is delivered depends on the needs of each specific child. Program delivery can take place at one of our Academies, at school, in the home or in the community. Be part of  teaching children the skills they need and help them overcome learning and behavioural challenges.

Job Details

The Star Academy are the best providers of education programs to children with special needs on the African continent. We have opportunities for you to travel overseas and work in other countries including:

You will also be considered for assignments to Durban or Cape Town and around South Africa.

Your daily responsibilities will be to deliver high quality education programs to children on the autism spectrum or with a related disorder. We will train you and ensure that you become proficient in the delivery of a ADA that has 30 years of research in support of it being a successful teaching methodology for children with autism and ADHD. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which is the teaching methodology we follow has its roots in the basic principles of psychology. ABA coupled with our Skills developmental curriculum which is a developmental yardstick we use to set program for each individual child on the spectrum is a recipe for success. Your duties will include program delivery, interaction with parents, working in a team, building relationships with teachers at schools, school facilitation and most importantly you are responsible for your child’s progress. At the Star Academy we teach the children the basic skills to function and to gain independence. There is a big focus on teaching language and communication and social skills. We will also train you in behaviour management. ABA is based on statistical data so you will learn how to score your results and you will also learn from the best ABA providers on the African Continent.

We require the following documents to consider you for the position:

  4. Full Curriculum Vitae including references
  5. Certified copy of Identity document
  6. We will need you to apply for police clearance.

Own car or reliable transport and studying towards a psychology degree preferable.

Once you have submitted the above documents to info@thestaracademy.co.za if your application is successful, we will contact you for an interview. You will then be required to attend a Zoom presentation which will give you detailed information about the job opportunity. At the end of the Zoom presentation you will be given the opportunity for a one minute interview. Once you have passed your interview we will send you the material necessary for you to study towards a theory exam. Once you have prepared for the theory exam you will be required to write an online exam and achieve a passing mark of 80 percent. Should you achieve 70%, you will be given the opportunity for a rewrite. Thereafter you will be invited to attend practical training for two weeks. You will also be required to submit an open book assignment on ‘Saving my Sons: A Journey with Autism’ by Ilana Gerschlowitz. Should you pass your field exam, your open book exam and your theory exam, you will be presented with an employment opportunity.

The Star Academy’s BCBA’s will provide you with continued supervision and training which will enhance your skills to deliver top quality ABA programs.

Please note that at the end of your ABA training Star Academy will not be able to provide you with a formal certificate in ABA.

Your salary will depend on which location you work at and how many hours a week you are available to deliver the ABA programs.

Full time:

Option 1: 8am – 16h00
Option 2:8am – 18h00

Part time:

We require at least 20 hours a week for you to qualify for our part time position.

We work in block sessions daily from:

8:00 am – 10:30am
10:30 to 13:00 or 13:30
13:00 to 15:00
14:00 – 16:00

Saturday session:

9am to 12pm
